Two comrades from Naypyidaw PDF Battalion 901 have been swept away by floodwaters while rescuing flood victims, according to a statement released on September 13 by the Naypyidaw PDF.

The PDF’s official announcement confirmed that during a rescue operation for flood-affected civilians, two members of the Naypyidaw PDF Battalion 901 were carried away by the floodwaters and are currently missing.

This incident occurred amid heavy rainfall and flooding caused by Typhoon Yagi, which struck the South China Sea earlier in September and brought severe weather conditions to Myanmar.

To aid those affected by floods, the NUG, through its Ministry of Planning, Finance, and Investment, along with NUGPay, has launched the Disaster Relief Fund initiative. The program will not operate on a fixed campaign schedule but will continuously provide assistance to flood victims as long as funds remain available. This ensures that timely help will be provided, with donations being made to those in need each time the fund reaches MMK 5,000,000 (approximately $2,400). Updates on the fund’s status and donations will be regularly shared with the public.

The NUG’s Ministry of Planning, Finance, and Investment, through NUGPay, encourages people to support each other with love and compassion during times of disaster. Additionally, the Spring Development Bank is coordinating with the NUG’s Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Management (MOHADM) to collect donations for flood-affected communities until September 20th. The bank encourages members of the Spring Development Bank family and users around the world to contribute to this humanitarian effort.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defense on September 12, 2024, during August, 41 soldiers and police officers, including three lieutenant colonels, two majors, two captains, and three lieutenants, defected to the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).

The defectors, under the coordination of the National Unity Government (NUG) and the Ministry of Defense, as well as through contact with various PDF battalions and People’s Defense Forces (PaKaFa), have decided to stand with the people, abandoning the military junta.

Among the 41 defectors, some brought their weapons with them. The NUG Ministry of Defense rewarded those who brought arms according to the value of the weapons. During August, a total of 19 various firearms, as well as ammunition and explosives, were handed over by the defectors.

The Ministry of Defense urged soldiers and police officers who wished to join the people’s side to contact PDF or PaKaFa units or allied ethnic armed organizations through Telegram or nearby communication channels.
